Morris & Company reducing carbon footprint

We have the results in from our first year of independently measuring our carbon footprint as a business with some fascinating facts and, all importantly, good news that we are starting to make a meaningful reduction in our CO2 emissions.

This is something we can all feel proud of. The business is taking important strategic steps to assist in our journey towards net zero, but each of our team plays a role in helping reduce our impact on a daily basis.

For Morris & Company and Morris Property, our baseline year began in 2021/2 which showed that Head Office total tonnes of CO2 emissions was recorded at 73.24. This covers gas, road fuel, electricity, staff commuting, consumables and waste. This figure reduced to 68.17 in 2022/3 and this past year, reduced again to 56.78.

It is good to see too that Morris Property is seeing a reduction in carbon footprint from its baseline total of 291.47 CO2 emissions in 2021/2, to this year’s lesser total of 212.40. It is interesting to note that the only measure to have increased at Property this past year is our electricity which reflects our move towards electric vehicles, but this is, of course, a lower carbon energy source.

We first started measuring our emissions at Marrington Escapes a year ago and one year on, the report shows our carbon intensity is reducing. As the number of holiday homes available to rent has increased however, as you would expect so too has the use of heating oil and electricity, but the positive news is that as a percentage of turnover, the carbon has reduced.
